The article “100 Great Interview Questions” found on Cheezhead.com lists 100 possible interview questions to ponder. When I first began interviewing for jobs, I Googled words like “popular interview questions” and “answers to interview questions”. This list is a good mix of traditional interview questions and questions that definitely make you think outside the box.
One example: Why is there fuzz on a tennis ball?
An initial reaction was, “Come again? How exactly will this help determine whether or not I am the right candidate for the job?” Common sense and the ability to think on your toes is key, however.
Another great one is an urban legend from a Google interview. A candidate was asked, “You are shrunk to the height of a nickel and your mass is proportionally reduced so as to maintain your original density. You are then thrown into an empty glass blender. The blades will start moving in 60 seconds. What do you do?” Wow!
Our personal favorite is simply “Why should we hire you?” This open-ended question gives our candidates a chance to think on their feet, and also measures the level of their understanding about us. It is one of the best questions to see how a person approaches a problem.
VoiceScreener believes in the importance of original and creative thinking and recognizes it as a valuable attribute to employers. That is why we believe strongly in the effectiveness of our screening system, which has several features to prompt candidates to answer honestly and creatively. It also prevents candidates from re-taking any questions in an interview.
As the interviewer, which questions do you ask? Which questions merit the most crucial responses to your hiring decisions?
